Ultrasound Spring Cleaning Tips

Let’s take a look at some spring cleaning items for ultrasound systems that can help keep equipment running efficiently.

Filters

Each system has external filters that should be cleaned every three months.

To clean: Remove dust off the filter using a vacuum, soft brush or dry cloth. Make sure to reseat the filter back in the system completely.

Trackball

The area under the trackball is prone to dust bunnies and gel accumulation and should be cleaned every six months.

To clean: The trackball is typically comprised of two parts – the ring and the ball. Remove the ring to get to the ball. Then, remove any visible lint with a dry cloth, then replace the trackball.

Monitor, Touchscreen and User Interface

These should be cleaned no less than weekly, more often if necessary.

To clean: Always use a damp, soft cloth to clean the top of your system. Never spray anything directly onto the system. If using a disinfectant to wipe down the system, use a water dampened cloth to do a final wipe down so the surface doesn’t become tacky.

Data

The system hard drive (patient archive) should never get more than 50% full. Delete exams as needed to stay below the 50% mark. If the system has a recycle/trash bin, make sure to empty it as well.

Make sure all exams have been permanently archived before erasing from the system. For the best results, do not erase more than one page (10-20) of exams at a time.
